Received this from Jonsey this week , thanks Mark
Sponsored walk, 21st November 2009
8 o clock in the morning and the sun was shining, a few clouds in the sky and very windy, apart from that it was lovely, I phoned my sister to make sure everything was still going ahead, (you know woman, lazy, and they feel the cold), and she said yeah meet you at 9am. 9.40 and she turned up wearing the stupidest outfit, not very practical with the heavy wind anyway. So we left my house, briefly. We went straight back in after Emma realised she didn’t want to walk 11 miles with her skirt over her head, So she had to borrow a pair of pyjama bottoms, Finally we arrived down at Martha’s house, where Martha and Sarah were waiting impatiently, and Dave Sean and Steve just laughing at us in the background, children.
Off we went, still windy but it wasn’t cold or wet, We went down to see Jack and Doris before we set out, a quick hello and we hit the trail, The first thing I do, spark up, how to keep me warm on this wonderful day. Just like football. We slowly made our way onto the bridge where we had our first shower of the day, hard, persistent and driving straight into our faces. lovely, how were we supposed to know this was how it was going to be all day, for the next 2 hours we had to walk in this driving rain.
Half an hour in and Sarah and myself were already 300 yard in front of the other 2, obviously they were moaning but they didn’t want us to hear, Sarah was too busy trying to keep the dogs in order anyway, Always running off, but unlike Emma and Martha at least they were keeping up. Halfway through the walk we started to realise how stupid we were, we were wet and bloody freezing, but at least I had something to keep me warm, sparking another one up. We got to Wadebridge just before 12 o clock, Emma and Martha went to buy a coffee for all of us and obviously, being woman they went shoe shopping, (Martha needed them as she was getting blisters, yeah right, any excuse). Sarah and myself stayed at Bridge bike hire where we had all decided to give the walk up at this point, Sarah was trying to contact Martin, but golf took priority. So we decided to catch a bus, Steve, Sean and Dave had now caught up with us as well, they were cycling, not very well in Sean’s case but he was trying. Emma and Martha now arrived back at the cycle hire where Martha (of all people) told us that why get a lift back, we had done half so why not all of it, what a guilt trip, so we decided to carry on. More moaning from Emma.
We drank our coffee and bought some ponchos and off we went, 200 yard down the trail and Martin pulled up, great timing, Sarah gave him one of the dogs, stole his body warmer and off we left again, We had to walk behind Sean though as he was not very stable on a bike, great for a giggle though. Another 500 yards and Sean had to cycle back, He had a puncture, Only Sean.
This time Most of us were together, this couldn’t last as Emma tried to keep up with Sarah, Martha and myself ended up miles behind, it felt like it any way. At this point I thought I would get myself warm again, I pulled out my baccy tin, all my smokes were still dry, which I was very surprised about, but, my lighter was soaked, nothing, so I pulled out my spare lighter, soaked again, This was not funny, luckily I had a third, this was not my day, soaked again, I feel sorry for Martha, Dave and Sean because they had to walk with me for the next hour without a smoke to keep me going, poor people, But they made it.
The walk home was not that memorable, all cold, all wet and all bloody freezing we didn’t speak much, and most of us needing the toilet, apart from me, so we basically ran back to the lion, The worst part was going through the town in our outfits, which were now skin tight and see through because they were so wet. It was certainly not a pretty sight, well apart from me, obviously. It was the nicest pint I had ever had, and the best tasting cigarette I had ever had as well.
All in all, I think we raised around £500 for the football club, it was a great effort, but I wont be doing it again in a hurry, unless its in the summer.
Thanks
Mark Jones
In driving rain Emma, Martha, Sarah and MARK JONES done the walk from Padstow to Wadebridge and back in fancy dress. It was an excellent effort by all involved, and early signs are that they raised just over £500 for the club. Many thanks from the committee and players to all involved.
Photos and full story as soon as I get them
Well the girls are at it!
Emma and Martha are gathering the woman of Padstow to go on a sponsored walk along the Camel Trail. From Padstow to Wadebridge to Padstow. This will be on a Sat. 21st November when "The Greens" are at home to St Mawgan. There are sponsor forms in the tea Hut at Jury Park, or from most of the committee members. All the proceeds go to the club. They will be down the "Lion" after the game, nursing their wounds. Good luck girls!
